92.3 The Beat Summer Jam 1994

I remember hearing this concert on 92.3 The Beat back in day. I can't believe it turned up on the net. Well for those who not fortunate to live within Southern California area back then here's your chance to hear some great performances by some Hip Hop's best emcees in their prime.

Each artist had several songs they performed, so I merged each artist's set into a single file, so instead of having 90 or so files, there are 20 tracks, each one with each artist's set.

DJ Mane One - 100

Here it is the final mix within Mane One's 30 Minute Mix series. It's definitely bittersweet for me. I started posting the series back in 2009 and now it is over. Mane is one of few deejays who haven't descended into electronica dance music. One of few who still keep it funky. Now the struggle begins for me to find some decent mixes to take it's place on my regular Thursday blog posts.  I guess it's time to dig into my archived Super B Beat shows.

"Guess this is the end of the road. :/ After almost two years of putting out a mix every week, I give you the last of The 30 Minute Mixes. It's been a lot of work and definitely fun. Thanks to all of the people who downloaded and supported this mix and thanks to all of the many artists who helped me rock cover art for the MP3s! This last mix includes a variety of music that would only appear on The 30 Minute Mix."

Hamza 21 - The Roots Part II

The Roots is my favorite Hip Hop group of all time. It was the crew from Philly that revived my love for Hip Hop with their album "Do U Want More".

At the time in 1994 Hip Hop as culture changed greatly from the early days in the 80's. All the aspects of culture starting to go underground and separate becoming subcultures within the greater Hip Hop culture. What was once an unified culture of the few became a separated culture of the many. Within that backdrop my attachement to the culture and music was waning but then a good friend of mine Bee255 gave me his cassette copy of DUWM by The Roots. I must have listened to that cassette ten times a day everyday for three months straight. The fusion of tight rhymes over live instrumentals struck me exactly like the first time when I heard Run DMC in early 80's. It reminded all the things I loved about the culture and the music.

Fast forward to the present I always had a idea to make a mix dedicated to The Roots and when I heard fellow dj/blogger Pipomixes The Roots mix (Here) I knew it was the right time to finally produce a mix of my own. Instead of making a Best of mix with tunes from the groups numerous albums I decided to follow Pipo's lead and start where he left off. The mix by Pipomixes featured tunes from Do U Want More to Game Theory. This Part II features songs from Game Theory to How I Got Over. I also included a few tunes released before 2008 but most the tunes come from the albums: Rising Down,Game Theory and How I Got Over.

Well there it is my long explanation of this mix until my next mix coming in December enjoy the tunes.

DJ Dr Turntablist - Atlantic Soul From The 80s

As a youth growing up in the 80's of course I've heard a number of popular songs from the RnB group Atlantic Starr but I never knew they had such fantastic gems within their catalog. Some Altanic Starr tunes will definitly be included on my next series of mixes. Although this isn't a best of Atlantic Starr mix  the majority of tunes are from the group. A pretty solid mix from Kenya 's DJ Dr Turntablist.

DJ Koncept - Extra Fixtures

I'm was very happy to find this mix of newer underground joints by Ireland's DJ Koncept. No tracklist but if you're not stuck in 90's you love many of these newer joints by KRS One, Cali Agents and others. You'll especially love Koncept scratching to the instrumental of Black Starr's "Respiration".

DJ Inquisitive - The Black Chamber Mix

This week digging for good mxes was pretty guresome!! It's becoming so difficult to find decent mixes each week. Many deejays have completely given up and either let the mainstream dictate thier playlist or are content with making mixes out of Hip Hop's radio hits of 1991 - 1997. Deejays really need to step up their game. Within my past 26 years of deejaying I've heard many a great deejay produce some great mixes but I never thought there would come a day when I couldnt find a deejay who could impress with thier skill, creatvity and track selection.

Now this Hip Hop mix by hipster DJ Inquisitive is surprising decent. Solid tracklist and mixing. As why is it so difficult to find simple solid mixes like this one with so many deejays out there is beyond me. Anyways enjoy the tunes.

This mix has been making it's way around the web since September of last year. Washington DC's Supa Qool DJ Uncle Q has recently reuploaded this mix after zshare's "maintenance" back in late September screwed up all files uploaded to zshare pre-September 2008. Anyways this is one for your collection. Some are songs by Raphael himself and others are songs he produced.
