DJ Expo - Live At The Get Back

Many funk lovers around the world are well aware of the popular funk party The Get Back in Las Vegas. Many fantastic deejays have played at The Get Back over the years such as Z Trip,The Beat Junkies, DJ Nu-Mark, DJ P, C-Minus,Skeme Richards and others. Now I have the recording of the appearance by DJ Expo (Rootdown) rocking an all vinyl set from 2009.

DJ Jazzy Jim - Sky Way Sounds 1988

Here's another mix from San Jose's Jazzy Jim Archer. Unlike the mix from 1987 I posted on Monday (HERE) it's only 28 minutes long. Still you can't help but love the creativity of one California's pioneering deejays in this short mix.

DJ Platurn - Journey Into Sound

DJ Platurn from The Oakland Faders released this blend-remix-samples mix back in 2009. Although I think it's a great mix towards the end it does wane a little for my taste.

“Coldcut’s Paid In Full samples, DJ Nu-Mark, The Godfather of Soul, Platurn Blends, Kraftwerk, New York in the early 80′s, familiar reggae vocals, Slick Rick & BDP, Nina Simone, Relaxation a la Electric, the greatest Rap Group of all time, songs with no words in ‘em and a DJ’s musical ego on full blast. Plus a few other tidbits in between. Enjoy!”

Hamza 21 - Soulful Melodies Vol 3

In retrospect this should have been the easiest mix to produce out of the Soulful Melodies series considering most of the blends I've recorded a couple times before through the years but in fact it wasn't. I just couldn't find the time to delve into this mix the way I intended but nonetheless I got it done on time.

Now of course there are some mistakes still present but you know how I like my mixes to have some grit, some humanness in them so that shouldn't distract from the experience of the great tunes you'll hear.

For now the series is finished with and I'm going move on to producing next. I've bought a used Boss SP 505 a few months back that I've been wanting to bang out a few beats and remixes on. I don't know when that project will be finished but I will be back with new mix of some kind by July. Until then enjoy the final volume of Soulful Melodies series.

DJ Spryte - Live On The MikiDZ Show

The 2001 ITF World Scratch Champion DJ Spryte formerly of The Platter Pirates totally shut down with his appearance on the MikiDZ show last year.

I have to admit with the rise of scratch nerds in late 90's I don't follow the DJ battle scene much so I haven't heard of Spryte until a few days ago. Now when I said he shut down,I mean for real he shut it down!   DJ Spryte spun one hell of a Hip Hop set that you without a doubt will love.

Jazzy Jim - Skyway Sounds 1987 Mix

As I stated before blends mixes were plentiful in California in late 80's and this mix by San Jose's Jazzy Jim Archer is testimony to the skills of some Cali's pioneering deejays.

I can't really say I've heard the of Jazzy Jim before but I can say I've heard his mixes before. This mix I've heard back in 1987 and even have part of it recorded off the radio on cassette but I never knew who made it until now.

Sorry no tracklist but the mix consists of mostly Freestyle and some early 80's Electro Hip Hop.

DJ Soup The Chemist - The Goin Way Back Show

I first heard of Soup The Chemist as an emcee back in 2001 when my homie Bee255 was throwing the Ground Zero event. Through the past few years I've seen his name up on flyers around the Inland Empire but haven't heard him spin before now.

As a deejay Soup has a pretty good ear and some decent skills. This is only a short 20 minute mix but still worth a listen.

Now I edited Money B's original show since I'm sure many of you wouldn't have wanted to listen to the full show since Soup's mix doesn't come in until the 20 minute mark.

DJ Battery Brain - Action Pack Rap Attack

The blogsopshere owns a great debt to mixtape collector Roll E for dropping this one on us!

This is pretty unbelievable a classic mix made in 1988 by DJ Battery Brain.

Battery Brain may not be a name most have heard of before but in late 80's the man was responsible for making some of pretty great blend mixes.  Before the concept became popular on the east coast in the early 90's deejays like Battery Brain, Dr. Dre, Tony A, Mix Mechanic and others were dropping blends mixes on a regular basis in mid to late 80's. When people over 30 years old on the west coast talk about mixtapes these are mixes we are referring to not today's rap "mixtapes".

Mista Sinsta - Street Credit

Mista Sinsta released this mix in 2001 which features some nice head nodding Hip Hop and of course some ill turntable tricks that the former the X -Ecutioners member is known for.

Also for some reason the download I have was split into two parts even though the original mix was released on CD not cassette. It seemed kind of weird to me. I don't know why someone would do that however it doesn't affect the mix in anyway.

DJ Andy Smith - Live On Breezeblock

Here's pretty great live mix from UK 's DJ Andy Smith on BBC Radio 1's Breezeblock from wayback in June of 1998. Just before the release of his first album "The Document.

Now I shouldn't have to say anything about DJ Andy Smith amongst mix lovers he should be well known. If you haven't heard a mix of his before just check this live mix. It may not be as polished as his other mixes but Andy's skills and creativity still shine through.

DJ Aladdin & DJ Skratch - Da Shizznit L.A. Style

I don't know much about this mixtape only that it was released in 1996. It been incorrectly labeled on the net that it features EPMD's DJ Scratch but this is not the case. It is in fact Los Angeles native DJ Skratch (JJ Fad, Second II None).

Anyway this classic mixtape featuring two of west coasts best battle deejays DJ Aladdin & DJ Skratch is treat for  those early mixtape lovers. Trust me you wont be disappointed Aladdin & Scratch drop some funky scratching and a couple dope joints in the mix.
